The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the kingdom's largest advertiser, is to issue a tender for its estimated 2.7 billion baht (US$80 million) advertising account. Kitsana Kaewtumrong, chief of TAT’s international advertising section, confirmed that the search was underway for new agency partners - which will begin work in 2008. Brandcameo 2006 Award for Overall Product Placement: Ford. Back-to-back wins in 2005 and 2006 make Ford the Tom Hanks of the product-placement world. After appearing in 18 of 41 Number Ones in 2005, Ford finished with 17 appearances in 2006's 41 Number One films. And this year's win didn't even include the James Bond film Casino Royale (not a US Number One film), in which Ford, and its brand stable, all had major roles.

Grey inks alliance with Viet Thai |

Grey Global Group has formed a joint venture with Vietnamese entrepreneur David Thai, founder of Viet Thai International. Viet
Thai has interests in coffee, including Highlands Coffee chain, as well
as finance, construction and retail. The tie-up was announced at the
network’s regional management meeting in Vietnam. Grey Vietnam has offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and is led by chief operating officer Sandip Rakhit.

BBDO rolls out in Vietnam |

BBDO has opened its doors in Vietnam with a new agency to be headed by JWT executive creative director David Smail. The
agency’s founding client is Fonterra, a global account won by the
network last August, and the agency is in talks with a number of other
undisclosed advertisers. BBDO Vietnam was set to launch in a
non-equity partnership with local shop Golden Advertising, but
exploratory talks broke down. It is believed the two parties disagreed over which would have greater control over the new company.
