This is the first of Marketing's on-ground reports from PEACH (Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall) at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort in Pattaya, Thailand, where the region's largest advertising awards event is being currently underway. As the Asia-Pacific Advertising Festival (AdFest) turns 10 this year, it sees a 15% increase in delegates' registration from the previous year. Between 14 and 17 March 2007, over 1,600 deleates from over 40 countries will arrive at here to share knowledge and

learn from some of the most highly lauded creative minds in the world.

A quick walkaround yesterday morning saw the rows displaying creative work submitted for the AdFest awards filled with delegates, some gathering in small groups discussing the work and others mulling over particular executions silently. Many delegates, possibly due to their busy schedules, preferred to start attending the event as of its second day so more were seen arriving yesterday. The AdFest Working Committee has confirmed that 5,012 entries for the awards have been submitted this year, an increase of 6% from 2006. This year, the coveted AdFest Lotus Awards will be even more sought after as all Lotus Award finalists will be automatically entered into The Intercontinental Advertising Cup, organised by AdFest, Ibero-American Advertising Festival (FIAP) and the Golden Drum Advertising Festival of New Europe.  Over 50 agencies in forty-nine cities around the region have entered. The top five cities by number of entries are Bangkok (807), Mumbai (732), Singapore (587), Tokyo (551) and Hong Kong (327).

Overall, Print Lotus entries have increased slightly on last year and TV and Outdoor have dropped slightly, perhaps reflecting the proliferation of different media channels in the advertising market. There have been significant increases in entries for DM, Cyber and Film Craft as well as entries in new award categories for Radio, 360 (Integrated Work) and Innovation Lotus, sponsored by Contagious magazine.
