WPP: 'this investment continues WPP's strategy of developing its networks in fast growing markets'WPP Group has acquired US digital agency Schematic, which was behind the recent revamp of ITV.com. Based in Los Angeles, Schematic has offices in New York, Boston, Atlanta and San Jose, Costa Rica, and employs 255 people. Schematic was hired by ITV in December to overhaul the ITV site and develop it as a true online competitor for rivals BBC and Channel 4. Schematic was appointed after working on a number of similar major broadband US projects including on-demand video news service CNN Pipeline and Turner Broadcasting System's GameTap broadband gaming service.

Founded in 1999, Schematic works across the digital board offering web, interactive television and mobile services. Clients of the agencies include Coca-Cola, Comcast, CondeNast, Disney, NBC Universal, Nokia, Panasonic, Target, Time Warner and Turner.

Schematic had revenues for the year to March 31 of $29.6m.

In a statement, WPP said: "This investment continues WPP's strategy of developing its networks in fast growing markets and sectors and strengthening its capabilities in digital media."

WPP has bought a 100% stake in independent Asian digital agency Blue Interactive in a deal which also sees it take ownership of the latter's search engine search subsidiary Demand.

WPP has invested heavily in digital this year with the acquisition of: US digital agency Refinery; a stake in the Chinese venture capital company that is leading the launch of MySpace in China; Lee & Jang in Korea; Blue Interactive in Singapore; and its £329m acquisition of global digital marketing firm 24/7 Real Media.
