Sony Ericsson websiteSony Ericsson Mobile Communications has signed tennis player Maria Sharapova as its first global brand ambassador, complementing the brand's sponsorship of the WTA Tour Championships. The exclusive four year sponsorship agreement involves Sharapova appearing in a series of new consumer brand campaigns to engage the brand's target audiences as well as working with the brand's designers on a range of products and accessories.

Sony Ericsson aims to enhance the tennis game experience for fans and new audiences through new ways such as night tennis - a combination of tennis, fashion, music and dance.

"Now in our seventh year as a company, the brand has evolved significantly and securing a global brand ambassador is a natural progression to take our brand to the next level in an increasingly competitive market place. Our alignment with Maria's global iconic status, combined with our brand expertise and innovative thinking aims to provide something new and something different to our customers around the world," Dee Dutta, Sony Ericsson's corporate vice president and head of marketing, said
